Remember when...

Remember when you guys were little and the only thing we had to do in our backyard on 18th street was to swing, hit a bucket of balls, or have Dad be a fun dad and glue your feet to the ground? What would we be doing if we were still there today...I have a feeling we would be hauling our bikes somewhere or loading up the truck to go fishing? For  a second this picture had me missing the simple days of packing up and going on adventures or just spending time as a family in the backyard.

Today on Alice Ave. I had to embrace the craziness that came with the first warm day of spring. The craziness consisted of new neighbor kids that were excited about what our backyards had to offer. They wanted to fish and kayak and fish and kayak and change clothes a bazillion times. Thank goodness your dad and I went with it and he had the patience for 6 poles and all the tangles that came with!

The view here hasn't gotten old, so I'll take the craziness of the day and the beauty that we see of nature right in our backyard. Thank goodness it ended with a relaxing view and a house that was clean and without extra kids.

Easter

Easter felt like April fools this year. On Palm Sunday we had to make our way through snow to get to church and the weather didn’t quite warm up after that. It came too fast and just didn’t make sense to wear nice new spring clothes when it felt like the middle of winter. However, the sun peeked through the clouds for an hour or so and most of the adults made it outside to take in the beauty of the day. It was a good reminder of the fresh start that comes with the holiday and the beauty that can be seen when your hearts are open and living the life as a servant of Christ.

Thanks for helping me hide math and word eggs at school. It’s so nice having you come to school with me.

April snow showers

This March and April has been tough. The days have been more gloomy and cold. Actually, bitterly cold and filled with too many sprinklings of snow. You two seem to be taking it pretty well. Thankfully we have a few neighbors who can brave the cold and enjoy the rays of sunshine that come with 40 degree temps. Four days ago you were catching your first fish with a net and yesterday we watched hail collect on the surface of our decks and today another winters mix.

Thankfully we greeted to snow tonight with a smile and appreciation. It would have been a quiet day mid winter, but because it’s spring, the birds had something to say about the snow too.  Today, I enjoyed your smiles. I enjoyed you both taking handfuls of snow and shoving them in places you might never want snow and laughing as you felt them melt in the hot tub.
